4 ways to save time blogging for your photography business
Nothing bogs down your time more than blogging for your photography business. If you blog on the regular, then you know exactly what I am talking about.
If you don't blog on the regular, you may not understand the huge time-suck that blogging can cause you, but don't let this be a reason to stop you from taking up this important task!
NOT blogging for your business could be even worse than pushing aside those extra hours per week investing in your blog.
Besides keeping your website current & updated, blogging on a regular basis will help you establish a bigger following and will set your site up for higher ranks on Google! How's that for awesome?
With a few simple tweaks & tricks up your sleeve, blogging for your photography business can run smoother & more quickly than ever before! Here are a few helpful tips to get you started with saving more time blogging:
1. Have your story in mind BEFORE sitting down to write.
Knowing exactly (or almost exactly) what you are going to say in your blog post before actually sitting down to write it, will prevent writers block and will free up a lot of wasted time just sitting and staring at your blank computer screen.
For example, when I blog photography sessions, I like to start thinking about how I am going to tell my client’s story in their blog the moment I meet them.
I take in mental notes about the session, weather, a funny occurrence, or anything that catches my interest in that moment so I have something worthy to write about later in their blog. This makes it super quick & easy for me to sit down and hammer out a blog post in a reasonable amount of time.
2. Set a timer.
I don’t know about you, but having to work against the clock puts a lot of (positive) pressure on myself. Knowing that I have a set amount of time to get my work done motivates me to stay focused and not look for other tasks that only distract me (can everyone say "Facebook"?).
Setting aside anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour of devoted blogging time will be your #1 way to assure a successful blog post that doesn’t cost you an entire afternoon!
3. Use blog templates
Creating a blog workflow is essential to saving time blogging & one sure fire way of doing this is to create ready-made templates for your posts.
These can be blog post headers, opt-in boxes, featured images, etc. Having a set template made wil not only make your blog look more uniform, but it will streamline your blogging workflow and provide you with a faster experience!
Note the example above . I use the same template for ALL of my written blog posts
so it’s easy and quick to change the text and photos - ohhh, and it saves me a TON of time!
4. Invest in Photo templates & collages
Instead of uploading your photos one by one individually, using collage templates to fit in multiple photos at once is a huge time-saver.
Personally, I use blog boards for Lightroom
. With the drag and drop feature, it literally takes seconds to put all of the photos I want in a collage to use in my posts.
You can also use Photoshop templates, but as a former user of them myself, I can’t say that this will actually help you save more time because of all the haggling of working with layers and clipping masks - but, whatever floats your boat!
